The Society

The Portuguese Linguistics Society (Associação Portuguesa de Linguística – APL) was founded in 1984 by a group including renown Portuguese linguists. It is a scientific society aiming at promoting the development of linguistic studies, creating debate opportunities for its members, and formulating suggestions concerning linguistic research and education.

APL has about 500 members, including Portuguese and foreigner linguists, coming from all countries in which Portuguese is an official language.

Throughout its nineteen years, APL has played a major role in organizing scientific meetings, in publication, in public interventions both officially and in independent initiatives.
